Meet Our Staff:
Dr. Steve Springer, Director
Dr. Steve Springer is a board-certified family medicine physician who received his medical degree from LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport. Originally from Mooringsport, Louisiana, Dr. Springer moved to Lake Charles in 1997 to attend the Family Medicine Residency located at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital where he finished as Chief Resident. His areas of interest include Direct Primary Care, Mobile Health Technologies, Smoking Cessation, medically managed weight loss, diabetes, advanced wound healing, dermatology and facial cosmetic procedures.
Dr. Springer has been in private practice since 2001.

Darci Portie, APRN-FNP, CTTS
Darci obtained her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Northwestern State University and a master’s degree in 2015 from McNeese State University. Darci practiced as a Registered Nurse for 10 years before pursuing her master’s degree, and is currently a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner. Her main clinical background is Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine. She currently practices as a Nurse Practitioner at a local family practice clinic, a wound care center and performs aesthetic procedures at a local medical spa. Darci has attended The ACT Center for Tobacco Treatment, Education and Research intense treatment course. She has undergone and surpassed the standards put forth to obtain the title of Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist. Darci is a member of the association for the Treatment of Tobacco Use and Dependence. Darci’s role as the Smoking Treatment Center’s Nurse Practitioner is to directly supervise and direct patient care at the Smoking Treatment Center. She also acts as the Program Director and Medical Liaison.

Barbara Fontenot
Barbara is currently going to school at McNeese for her BSN. She has been with The Smoking Treatment Center since May 2018.  She has attended extensive training through the leading smoking treatment program in the country, The ACT center for Tobacco Treatment, Education and Research resulting in becoming a Tobacco Treatment Specialist. Having been practicing in this role (as TTS) since March 2019, Barbara is extremely efficient in helping those she assists in quitting smoking. She looks forward to helping you in your journey to a smoke free life. Member of ATTUD – Association for the Treatment of Tobacco Use and Dependence
